The Great Shasta Rail Trail will link McCloud and Burney along an 80-mile scenic trail featuring local heritage and culture, close connections to nature, and providing a boost to the economic and social vitality of both communities and the surrounding region.
An alliance of local non-profit organizations is working to develop eighty miles of rail bed into a multi-use trail. Trail developers are writing grant applications, raising funds in the community, and planning the trail. The initial stage of development has been a resounding success, and GSRT is now gearing up for stage two!
To help fund the project, McCloud Local First and the McCloud Hotel are teaming up to host what promises to be a spectacular evening in our town. On Wednesday May 1st, please plan to join us at 6:00pm for an evening of wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres, as well as live music performed by Gerry Smida. Duringt the event you can learn more about the successes that have occurred over the past year, get up to speed on the goals for the next phase of the project, and explore the many ways for you to get involved if you choose to volunteer your time!
The highlight of the evening will be a silent auction, with all proceeds going toward the GSRT project. Some incredible items will be up for bid, including:
2 rounds of golf at the McCloud Golf Club and at Fall River Valley Golf & Country Club – includes cart. (compliments of the respective golf courses);
Hafner Wines (compliments of the Toad Hollow Vacation Rental)
And much, much more!
Tickets are available in town for $20 at McCloud Outdoors, the McCloud Mercantile, and at the Other Side of the Mountain. Tickets can also be purchased in Mt. Shasta at The Fifth Season, Village Books and the Mt. Shasta Book Nook.
Please come out and join us for what promises to be a wonderfully civic-minded evening to support McCloud and this worthy project! More information can be found at http://www.greatshastarailtrail.org
